“Tourist Trap” was one of producer and sometimes director Charles Band’s first productions. Band went on to form Empire Pictures, which made “Re-Animator”, and then he came up with Full Moon, a company that’s been around in one way or another for more than twenty years; Band seems to make comeback after comeback. Full Moon produced buckets of often colorful little direct-to-video movies, the most popular series is the “Puppetmaster” series, the first installment from 1989 was directed by Schmoeller -- yes, the guy who made “Tourist Trap”.
This is more or less David Schmoeller’s take on the classic House of Wax story. A handful of friends driving through your typical In the Middle of Nowhere locations end up at Slausen’s Lost Oasis. This is your typical last stop before the desert kind of place, but Slausen’s place also happens to be a quite creepy museum, crammed with bizarre dolls and mannequins. And since Mr. Slausen is played by the late, great Chuck Connors, we know that few of the main characters will survive the visit.
