In the late 1980s, I read a review of Jefferson Richard’s “Berserker” in Fangoria. I don’t remember what it said, what they thought of it -- they were probably not very positive -- but during those years, I was still very fascinated by all the unknown horror movies released on video in the States. This was before the Shot On Different Video Formats Boom and the tidal wave of direct to video-movies. The majority of the movies were still shot on film, most of the time on 35mm -- and sometimes even the most obscure movies played theaters. Did “Berserker” open theatrically in the U.S.? I’ve no idea.
And now, 23 years after it was made, I’ve seen “Berserker”, and it has definitely nothing to do with the book. Richard’s movie is a slasher.
