On my day off last week, my wife and I decided to dine at Giovanni's Casa Della Pasta. We were regulars there and knew the place was always chock a block, so my wife reserved a table.
Giovanni's popularity had nothing to do with its ambiance; if it hadn't been for the red chequered table cloths and the Chianti bottles that served as candlesticks, it might well have been the local Wimpy Bar.
And it wasn't the cuisine either; the food had about as much to do with Italy as kangaroos with Greenland.
It was Tracy Perkins – Giovanni's only waitress.
The very first time I saw Tracy -- a willowy girl with acne, glasses, greasy hair, a pointy nose, and a crooked but friendly smile -- I thought I was seeing a moving, plate-bearing tree.
