“Julia’s Eyes” (“Los ojos de Julia”) was directed by Guillem Morales, but it was produced by Guillermo del Toro, so it’s del Toro who has his name above the title on the poster, making people believe he directed it.

Horror movies about eyes. There are quite a few of them. “The Crawling Eye” (1958). “Eyes of Laura Mars” (1978). The Hong Kong movie “The Eye” and it’s American, very inferior sequel. To name just a few.

Morales’ movie opens with a blind woman called Sara (Belén Rueda fron "The Orphanage") hanging herself in her basement while listening to “The Look of Love” one stormy night. There’s somebody there with her, a man hiding in the shadows, taking pictures of her. And since this is a horror movie -- kind of a horror movie -- Sara’s eyes are gray and creepy, just like Emily’s in Lucio Fulci’s “The Beyond”.

When Sara dies, we cut to Julia, her twin sister (played by George Wendt. No, I’m kidding, Julia is of course also played by Rueda), who senses something’s wrong with Sara. Julia and her husband Isaac (Lluís Homar) drive to Sara’s house, where they find the dead body.

We find out that Julia is suffering from the same disease as Sara and she’s slowly losing her sight. She also just knows that there’s something wrong with Sara’s suicide. She must have been murdered. Julia ends up in hospital with bandages covering her eyes, more people start turning up dead, a suspicious male nurse take care of Sara, a weird neighbor and his even weirder daughter show up, and even more people die.
