“Captain America” was supposed to open theatrically, but it was ditched straight to video in the States, after spending a few years on a dusty shelf. Most other countries did the same, but it’s of course possible it played theaters in some countries. The movie has a reputation of being bad, cheap and stupid, and after having seen it, I must say that it’s … Well, it’s pretty bad, cheap and stupid, but it’s not that bad. It’s not boring -- and as you all now, boring movies are always worse than bad movies. When it comes to Albert Pyun, you never know what you get. The man makes a lot of crap, but he’s also made good movies, like “The Sword and the Sorcerer” and “Nemesis”.
The movie opens in 1943, when the limp Steve Rogers (Hmm … Did he really walk with a limp in the comics?) checks in with the army to expose himself to an experiment. He’s turned into the super-soldier Captain America and he has a special mission: Mussolini has performed the same experiment on an Italian boy, who was turned into the cruel super-villain the Red Skull.
