Bookmark and Share Movie Review: Bad Teacher

Director Jake Kasdan, son of “The Big Chill” director Lawrence Kasdan, has previously mainly worked for television, and has among other things directed an episode of “Californication”, one of the very few, new(ish) TV-shows I actually watch and like (I prefer to stick to old faves from the 1970s). In “Bad Teacher”, Cameron Diaz plays junior high teacher Elizabeth Halsey, who after quitting her job -- which she hates -- is dumped by her very, very rich fiancee, who’s realized she doesn’t love him at all, she’s only after his money.

Elizabeth moves into a small, apartment (where she has a very bizarre guy as a roommate), and is forced to start teaching again. And she hates it. She hates her job, she hates the kids and she hates her annoying colleagues. She’s only in it for the money.

Then one day, young and apparently very rich Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake) shows up, he’s the new substitute teacher, and Elizabeth’s new goal is to have him fall for her.

"It was all phonetic," Diaz said, laughing. "We started with an `F' and we ended up with a `K,' and, apparently, if you put these other two letters in between, it makes a very funny noise ... and people understand it."
As Diaz explains, actors typically drop F-bombs on the set, even if it's not in the script. "Then you're, `God, you can't say that. We can't use that one,'" said the actress.
