My idea was selected to be in the voting in the Pepsi Refresh Project beginning January 3, 2011. Please vote for me. My project is called, "Put ex-offenders back to work." If I win the popular vote, I will be able to hire people to do jobs that have typically been labeled community service and pay them a stipend. Individuals, families, and the communities will benefit, at no cost to the people. Some paid services will be comple...ted, at no cost, to companies as well. Mine was one of 1,000 new applications approved this month. I am listed in the Neighborhoods $250,000 category. Pepsi Refresh Project grants about $1.3 million in grants, receives thousands of applications, and only approves 1,000 new apps to be voted on by the public per month.

Individuals will be placed in non-threatening situations. Bonding insurance would be provided. The program will be strict. Only people, with appropriate recommendations/referrals from participating agencies/churches/etc. will be used. I am so serious about this that I would insist that there be stipulations attached to parole/probation agreements involving revocations if violated. Often times, some people ruin good ideas/situations for others. I will do all within my power to eliminate that possibility.

People with felony convictions are the hardest to place in the job market. Examples of jobs that can be done for individuals, no cost to residents: mow lawns for your neighborhood, paint, home improvements, and make sure garbage is out for elderly/handicapped: for communities: clean up parks, lifeguarding, and pick up trash on roadways: for companies (and also reduce the costs they currently pay out): haul away recyclables. training available for office, computer, and tutoring. much more in store.

Our communities and families need all of our help. I can't do it alone. Stop just talking about the situation and do something positive and immensely helpful to correct it. Just think what it would mean to the country if all cities adopted this idea and backed these programs.
